The board worked. I still stopped using it.

J_OS Desk taught me that a working feature and a useful working habit are different things.

When the project growsAbout 2 min read

It was more than a sketch

J_OS Desk began with a reasonable idea. If different AI agents were helping with the same projects, perhaps a shared board could hold the work, show who was doing it and bring the results back.

The board was built in Obsidian. Work cards could be created and edited. Agents could receive assignments and return results. The first working version went through tests, repairs and my hands-on acceptance. There was working code behind the idea, even though it did not become part of my routine.

Acceptance was not adoption

After that acceptance, I did not continue using the Desk in everyday work. The collaboration pattern it expected was less useful than it had sounded while we were building it.

Much of my work could move from a conversation about purpose into a clear task and then into the source project. Another board did not automatically make that route easier. When Linear could hold the task and the agents could read it, Desk risked adding a second record to maintain.

A successful demonstration had answered whether the pieces could work together. It had not answered whether this arrangement earned a place in my routine.

Pausing was a product decision

I paused routine use and further development. I did not need to declare every part of the implementation a failure, or keep developing it to justify what had already been built.

The useful question became what recurring problem would make a shared board worth returning to. It would need to replace a weaker way of coordinating, rather than sit beside it as another thing to update. I have not found that need clearly enough to return to it yet.

The question I would ask earlier

Before building another coordination tool, I would ask: which real handoff keeps going wrong, what existing step will this remove, and will I still choose it when the novelty has worn off?

The board is still paused. I can see what it does; whether I would choose to work that way remains a separate question.
