Sometimes the improvement is one less screen
Attaching a document should not become a separate job.

The work created around a small action
In My Next Step, a person may have a document with more detail about an opportunity. They are already looking at that opportunity. Attaching the document should help them continue from there.
It is possible to build an entire document workspace around this action: queues, review panels and another route back. Each part may function, while the combined journey asks the person to leave the thing they were trying to understand.
Keep the action near its purpose
The design question is whether the person needs a new workspace or simply a clear action in the existing one. An attach control can show that a file is being read, explain a failure and show when material was added without moving the person elsewhere.
This does not remove the work behind the button. File validation, interpretation and the effect on existing opportunity information still need careful handling. A smaller interface can rest on substantial engineering.
Review the journey before polishing
Try describing the action without mentioning any screens: choose this opportunity, add this document, continue understanding it. Then compare that short account with the journey the app requires.
If an extra screen adds no useful decision, I would question whether it needs to remain. Time already spent building it does not tell me how much work to ask of the next person.
